Dear ones! The time has come!
I’m turning on paid subscriptions. And it feels like a huge step, exciting and scary in equal measure.
I’m touched by how many of you have asked about becoming paid subscribers or have pledged a subscription when it becomes available. What an unexpected joy that my words and my art mean something to you! It feels nothing short of miraculous.
Here are a few thoughts (another video intermission : ) about it all…
So, in the spirit of shared joys and deep connection, here’s the upgrade button and some art and poetry that gets at the heart of what Accidental Alchemy is all about.
Making room for the light
A perfectly nice, fine old thing.
It did its job,
pretty enough, skilled enough,
but maybe missing a little light.
So it got torn apart,
systematically,
from one end to the other.
So now there's room for the light.
Room to breathe.
Room to see past old limits
to new horizons.
Old and new merging,
flowing together
celebrating the old and torn.
Celebrating the new and bright.
Celebrating us.Here’s to walking together on the hard road of being human, being torn and stretched, and making room for the light, Maybe even alchemizing into our wildest, most expansive selves.
If you, too, are on that road and are seeing kinship, soul friends, and inspiration, consider upgrading and joining this community of alchemists.
I can’t thank you all enough. For being here. For walking beside me as I tell my story and share my words and my art. For the likes and comments that feel like love oozing right out of my device and into my heart. What a gift you are!
I am overjoyed at every new reader and every subscription, whether paid or free. Seriously :). So no pressure to upgrade. The core chapters of my memoir will remain free right to the end, as will my core posts beyond this memoir.
If you do choose to upgrade, here’s what you can expect:
Subscriber-only posts sharing my wild thoughts, poetry and art
Mind-body healing inspiration and resources
Occasional video posts and behind-the-scenes peeks
A community of like-minded big picture thinkers, feelers and seekers
My undying gratitude for your love and support
I’ll also be offering gift subscriptions that you can share with a friend, so be on the lookout for those after you upgrade.
That’s it! Sending you all so much love and wishing you a wild, expansive Sunday.
Sumaya
PS. I don’t get notified when someone unsubscribes, and I never, ever check my subscriber list. None of that plays any part in what motivates me and keeps me writing, so please-oh-please feel free to unsubscribe at any point. We all have so much thrown at us every day, in our inboxes, our notifications, our apps. Sometimes (or most times?) it’s just too much, and we need to pick and choose. I applaud you for doing exactly that! You can always come back when you feel moved : )
PPS. I was heartbroken to see recently that my carefully crafted welcome email has not been going to new subscribers. Gahh!! The damn learning curve! All this time, I wanted each and every one of you to feel welcomed and appreciated. Instead, you got the dry, cold boilerplate “You’re on the list” email. I wish I could go back in time and fix it, but I can’t. Please know that my intention has always been to welcome you with warmth, open arms and abundant gratitude for subscribing.
And since it’s never actually too late…. a warm welcome and a huge thank you!

I absolutely love your videos Sumaya, seeing your beautiful — and healthy — smile after knowing at least a part of your suffering through reading your memoire, brings enormous joy and faith in humans, in their/our ability to overcome and thrive and continue despite setbacks and fears. Thank you for reigniting a faith that was waning badly... xx
Lovely to see you again and hear the babbling stream. So much of what's available online, even within Substack now, is the opposite of uplifting. Your thoughtful, articulate, beautifully crafted, honest, insightful writing and poetry and art are a balm. Your work makes me delight in the messiness of humanity rather than despair about it. Keep sharing your thoughts and shining your light, Sumaya. Your little stones make positive ripples in the pond that may reach farther than we can imagine. Onward, you amazing human!
