The questions of “How far forward have I gone?” And “what’s new and wonderous to me now?” Made me stop. These remind me of the term meta-habilitation. That we don’t heal to return to a prior version of ourselves, but the healing is part of an evolution into a new version of ourselves. 🙏🏻
I’m so glad you’re here, Kyle! Thanks for reading and for letting me know that these questions resonate with you. I’m not sure why it’s so hard for us to leap forward into the new rather than reaching back into the old, but it is. That said, orienting to our unfolding is so much more rewarding than holding on to the picture of who we’ve been or who we’re supposed to be. Thanks for reminding me with your kind comment! That’s the beauty of sharing my story and gathering a community here: I keep getting reminded of what I know but too often forget. Thank you for that!
Dearest Sumaya, I know I don't have to apologise for my tardiness and I was going to just tap that little heart once I'd listened to this chapter and comment on the next but this one, oh this one... its just so filled with joy and positivity and hope I had to stop and tell you how welcome it is, here on my hill, tonight!
You write; "How can love not love love?" and I can only ask, 'how can it not?' And if it didn't would we really even know love at all? We often hear it said that 'love' is a word brandished around too freely, for me it will never be used enough, I think I knew from the very first reading of your story that you believe that too!
I loved this chapter so deeply and wholly, from the rain drops holding a whole universe to the mosses that take your breath away!
Oh I’m so glad this was welcome and brought you joy, Susie. Of course there is no such thing as tardiness and no apology needed ever, but I’m always, always glad for your kind, heartfelt comments. Sending much love from my hill to yours, dear one!! 💜
Beautiful! Thank you for the joy conveyed in the reading of this.
Does Earth love me?
I am grateful that Robin Wall Kimmerer dropped that question into my life some years back. Alas, I’d never considered it before that. Yet doesn’t mutual love underlie kinship?
I’m so glad that your intense rewiring work has brought you to this place where wonder and mutual affection shows up frequently. Thanks for leading the way forward. 💗
Wow, thank you Leah. Your words mean a lot! I too am very grateful for Robin Wall Kimmerer, and for so many of the questions and perspectives she has dropped into my life. I love your question about mutual love and kinship. What a beautiful way to frame the relationship and the inevitable love at its heart. Thank you, too for leading the way forward! ❤️
Oh Sumaya - I get this so clearly! Just yesterday I had a conversation with a friend who asked me a question… leaving me feeling like I had to quantify my healing… my “getting back to myself”. I started to fall into the trap, and then I remembered how I was being healed. Through BEING in the wilderness all last summer, through my movement practice, through prayer. Through connecting with my body mind and spirit over and over and over again. I shall listen to this chapter many times and will journal about your questions on my own. Xo
Amy I’m so so glad this resonated. And you’ve helped me see that it applies to any of us who have gone through a big, life-altering experience, not just an experience of illness. What’s with the obsession with going “back”??? And what’s with the need to quantify that “going back?” It’s looking weirder and weirder the more I sit with it.
Thank you for sharing. It feels so good to connect about it all❤️
